The latest news concerning our missionary care ministry is found right here. In between support raising activities, We are involved in a number of exciting opportunities that help increase the effectiveness of missionaries and reduce their attrition rate. This marks the 6th year John facilitates this week of debriefing, renewal, encouragement, and skills training for missionaries from Pioneers on home assignment. March 25. Janet & John to debrief the Woodridge Community Church missions team returning from Brazil July 9. Annual Board of Directors meeting. New Berlin, WI. July 12-20. Pioneers' CONNECT Conference, Orlando, FL. John will facilitate this week of debriefing, renewal, encouragement, and skills training for missionaries from Pioneers on home assignment. This will be the 12th one he's led. Looking forward to meeting old friends and missionaries who have not attended the conference before. Highlights of 2011
December 23. Notified by Cornerstone Church in Delafield that they are doubling their financial support of Caring for Others. Praise the Lord! December 10. We debriefed four delightful MK siblings back in the US after 4 years in Indonesia. The 13-year old: “I miss the beauty of Indonesia.” The 11-year: “I like America AND Indonesia-I just wish we could take a big chunk of Indonesia and plop it down right here where we live now.”The 9-year old: “I feel most at home in airports. I LOVE flying, I’ve been on 22 flights and on the last one I sat next to a 35 year-old nervous man who had never flown before - he threw up a lot.” The 6-year old: "I’m glad it’s not hot where we live now.” What a wonderful time we had with them. Impressed once again with how well MK’s look after each other, even within the same family. November. John and Janet debriefed two individual missionaries who came to stay with us from different parts of the country. Also had several debriefing sessions with a a missionary couple referred to us by their mission agency October 23. John preached at Meadowbrook Church in Wauwatosa, WI. The text: 3rd John. The main idea: Caring for missionaries brings out the best in us. October 19. John facilitated the Spiritual Enrichment Day for the missionary staff of Camp Forest Springs, Westboro, WI September 29. $2,290 in contributions have come in so far toward the $2,600 needed for our project to design, print, and mail a brochure explaining our ministry. Praise the Lord! We're so close now. September 10. John spoke at the annual men's retreat of New Hope Community Church, Franklin, WI. August 11. Judy Zwitter joined our board of directors. See About Us to learn more about Judy. July 14-22. Pioneers' CONNECT Conference, Orlando, FL. For the 10th time since it began in 2006, John facilitated this week of debriefing, renewal, encouragement, and skills training for missionaries from Pioneers on home assignment. July 11. Annual board of directors meeting. New Berlin, WI. June 6. Received this note in the mail from a missionary couple: “We know it may be hard for people in the USA to realize you are missionaries, being from the ‘home front.” But we KNOW that without your ministry there would be a lot fewer missionaries worldwide. What you do through counseling, encouragement, and edification help keep many missionaries on the field and God has used you to give direction to many (including us.)” May 16-19. A missionary visited us for debriefing and soul care. May 9. John and Janet completed the Perspectives course. What a great experience. April 30. John & Janet conducted a "How to Better Care for Missionaries" workshop at WoodsEdge Community Church in Spring, Texas. April 5-8. A missionary couple came to visits us to work through some personal issues. March 21. Had breakfast with the executive director of a large member care agency, a man with whom I meet every so often. What great work they are doing. Talked about measuring the effectiveness of member care workers. Very encouraging to hear about others wanting to grow and improve. March 16-18. A missionary visited us for a time of debriefing and planning. Reminded once again that one's second term on the field is most often harder than the first. February 20-24. New Tribes Annual Member Care Training Conference, Sanford, FL. John & Janet, together with Roger and Rose Rand, presented our "Missionary Care Conference" to the regional member care representatives of NTM. February 10-18. Pioneers' CONNECT Conference, Orlando, FL. For the 9th time since it began in 2006, John facilitated this week of debriefing, renewal, encouragement, and skills training for missionaries from Pioneers on home assignment. January 23. John & Janet spoke with the missions committee of Harvest Community Church in Oak Creek. We explained how Caring for Others helps spread the gospel. January 22. Janet spoke at the Women’s Breakfast of Woodridge Community Church in New Berlin, WI, sharing what Caring for Others is doing to care for missionaries. January 10-13, 2011. Spent several days giving presentations to missionary candidates and the member care specialists at Avant Ministries in Kansas City. As so often happens, meaningful, conversations also took place with missionaries over, dinner, tea, and lunch. We’ve been invited back and look forward to continuing those conversations. One missionary told us, “We need to have you visit us every 90 days or so.” She doesn’t get out much.
